I trained my mantis! I hand feed him!

So i am happy to say i feel conent with the training of my smithii mantis. When i got him, he would whack at anything that got close to him. He was always acting weird and beating things up. After sitting by the tank for hours doin homework and otherthings every day, he got used to me after about 3 weeks. I actually am hand feeding him now and though it sounds risky, i am going to try and hold him next week. he is about 5 inches long so he packs a punch. I just thought id share as i think this is very cool and exciting!

 

very cool patrick. one request tho. please have a video camera set up when you do it. i go to hockey games in case a fight breaks out, a car race for a crash. an aquarist thinkin of pickin up an mantis.

You're brave! I've had my smithii for a few months. He will still whack at the tongs and actually whacked my son on the finger one time - No way would I attempt to hold him!!!!!

oh for sure. i will egt a nice result with a camera regardless... either he takes the food and lets me hold him, or whacks me so hard its priceless.

 

First off - thats AWESOME that you can even hand feed something like that.

Secondly - just curious - got a first aid kit?

Thirdly - hate to ask this in the current times we are living in - got health insurance?

In all seriousness - you have already achieved something amazing with the hand feeding - good luck and definitely get a video of this. The rest of us can imagine feeding and picking up a mantis vicariously through YOU.
