I love horses. I always have.

When I was a little kid and went to the family reunions, they were held at my Uncle Buck's horse ranch. I was riding full-sized horses when my friends were on tri-cycles or bicycles with training wheels. It's something I've loved since I was a small child.

I have a quarter acre behind the condo. Obviously, there's not enough grass to support a horse there. Luckily, I do have access to good milo, alfalfa, and hay. Waste is obviously going to be an issue. Horses are vegetarians and need a whole lot of food to obtain enough nutrition to be healthy. Lots of food in means lots of waste out. A 1/4 acre is small enough that I can pick up the waste with a pitchfork and a wheel-barrow.

I've been around horses my whole life. I know how to keep one alive in a small space. It's not right to do this though. Horses that are not given the ability to run and move become obssessive-compulsive. They often do what is called "cribbing" sometimes too. They are not happy nor are they as healthy as they could be.

I don't understand why people think that keeping a grazing fish alive in a small tank for several months equals success. It's the same thing as putting a horse in a small back yard.

I still want my own one day.

You can have one and just board it somewhere else!

Just don't join a horse forum after you do and ignore any advice given that goes against what you want to hear.

You're missing the point. People are putting grazing fish in their tanks and when it starves, they blame their LFS, the Internet, God, yada, yada, yada. The reason that fish died is because of them.

No, no I get the point of the original post. But after amcarrig responded you said that you did want one some day - so I thought that was a serious point. Nevermind....

Been there, done that. That is why I don't have a horse. I DID listen to them.
