i also just thought of one, if you get a blue tang like an inch or inch and a half or so, and let it grow unil like 3 nches or a little more then trade it back in for a small one again, they are active swimmers and really fun to look at :)

^ I would NEVER EVER do that. As most people will get "Attached to fish" not trade back, kill all inhabitants with a Amm spike........Blue tangs need LOTS of swimming room. Putting one in a nano is like keeping a dog in a hamster cage.

I'm in the same mode, and looking to buy my first fish (again). If you are looking for something small, check out - Nano Fish (Their nano fish section). If for nothing else than a good place to get a feel for what you might want.

I agree with all the recommendations for the neon goby, but for the life of me I cannot find anyone (local or online) that has them in stock, esp. tank bred ones. Along the same lines of a fish with a purpose, the Yellow stripe or urchin cling fish looks pretty interesting. Though apparently they like to form a relationship with an urchin or branching coral (hence the name), so while not a requirement, I'm not sure if that would fit your situation or not.

[edit]I agree, avoid getting a tang. Even if you could thwart the attachment, there is no telling when they could stress out from the confinement and end up being one less fish.[/edit]

    Agree totally!!!

I (and other family members) become emotionally attached to each and every one of our fish. They become different then any other like them, depending on the care and degree of attention you devote to them.

Losing a fish is a very traumatic event for us all.

When our hippo finally outgrew tank, it was a very difficult task to move it on to a larger tank at local nursery.

Visit her to this day every time we go by. And despite many other hippo's in tank...we know exactly which is our "Dory."

(and also always seems she is glad to see us also = ::))

    A six-line wrasse is a great addition.
