I have a clear mesh top, and quite a few 3reefers also use a clear mesh top. It's very easy and cheap! to make and lets a lot of light through. It also sits down on the inner lip of the top frame of the tank, so it isn't a bulky eye sore. I bought my mesh off Ebay, but I believe Bulkreefsupply.com sells it as well.

If you want instructions and a supply list let me know! I'd be glad to help.

Your tank will require two separate panels for the lid, since it is so long. Each lid will cover half of the tank. The middle brace is where the two will meet.

Here is the mesh Clear 1/4" Screen Netting 6.5' x 2.5' - English

If you don't want to buy a whole roll I can try to find the guy I bought it from off Ebay. But that would require some digging around!

Here are the other supplies you need: (you can do white, or charcoal. I prefer charcoal as it blends in better with the tank.)

    5/16 in. x 3/4 in. x 84 in. Aluminum Screen Frame - 3021651 at The Home Depot

5/16 in. Plastic Corners - 3021663 at The Home Depot

    .125 x 25 Ft Black Spline - 3007695 at The Home Depot

Spline Roller Tool with Plastic Handle - 3007559 at The Home Depot

Just measure length and width of the half section of the tank (remember you will have two panels), subtract the length of the frame corner, and cut your eight pieces of frame to the proper lengths. Attach the four pieces with the frame corners. Place the mesh over the frame and put the spline into the indent on the frame, on top of the mesh. Press firmly with the spline roller and roll/press the spline into the frame to hold the mesh in place. Cut off extra mesh!

Does that make sense?! LOL I can draw a picture if need be. :) It's easy though, I'm sure you can figure it out.

Well I made a lid for my fuge the other night and it took me about 5 minutes. LOL The ones for my 90 gallon took about 7 minutes. :)

It's very easy. I used a hacksaw to cut the metal framing.

The total price is probably less than 30 bucks, and even cheaper if you don't buy a whole roll of mesh.

You want the mesh bigger than what you need, then trim the access.

My female lyretail was a brat. Tried to give her friends over the years but she would beat them all to death. My trio of red saddled were horrible to each other and would lock mouths. The single sunburst was a p.ussycat.
