Would this lower the tempature in my tank when the light is on? I was thinking of getting a portable fan and pointing it straight accross the top of the tank ? do you think this will lower tempature of the tank while the lamp is on my temp peaked to 84 today after 8 hours of non stop use :-( im hoping a 10 dollar fan would make a big difference

Yes - a fan wil definitely help lower the temperature through evaporation. If you don't already have an auto-top-off unit - this would be a good time to invest in one. In the mean time, check your water level daily and manually top off as your evaporation will increase while using a fan.
