hey guys! i have had 2 saltwater tanks in the past 110 and 55 but that was about 6 years ago. so i decided to set up a new tank which was the nanocube 28 . the woman who sold me the tank seemed to be really knowledgeable and said she had the same set up. but she said it did not need to be cycled in the traditional way. i bought a 20lb bag of live sand and a 4.4 gal jug of nutri-seawater and the rest of the water i mixed myself. i am going to set it up with corals and anemones so i got microlift calcium concentrate,all-in-one master supplement and special blend and phosphate remover. so the question is before i go messing things up...does it need to be cycled? thanks!-tony

That doesn't make any sense, what the lady said. IF you are using the same things then, heck yes, the same events would take place. That being a cycle in this case. I'm confused why she would have said that. Aside from maybe getting you to buy fish sooner..

Unless they have put some miracle water in there it will cycle just like every other tank. Pet stores are notorius for telling people that becasuse they want to sell you as much as they can, did she try and sell you some fish or coral? I'd be supprised if she didn't.

If the LR is cured then I would wait to add it until eh cycle is over. If it is not cured yet, then now would be the time to add it in. The curing process of LR is also part of the cycle.

surprising this is she didn't try to sell my anything else. she said she did the same thing and it worked for her, maybe she filled her tank w/ holy water...lol. i figured that now that they sold live sand and live seawater that you could bypass the cycling...guess not

Actually, this is what starts the cycle...the slow die-off of living things from the params in a new tank.

I would suggest not suing live sand, unless you already bought it. that live sand isn't usually live by the time it gets to you. The oxygen in the bag...is used up.
