A 24" piece of 1/4 angle Iron with rope tied to the ends and two teen age grand kids to toss it up on the roof repetedly and my roof was cleared in about 2 hours last time we got a bad storm like this one.

Took me some 40 mnutes to get the 3/4" of ice off of my wifes and my SUV's. this morning. Power has been running steady but its early and it still snowing here in New lenox and in Chicago........

And Ice skating rink is putting it mildly!

Don't you just love this weather??? Not!!!
I am supposed to get my Mustang back from the bodyshop today and dont even want to think about driving it home the way it is in Peotone right now....Aaarg
I woke up at 6:30am to see a complete ice skating rink for our streets, This town sure doesn't know how to salt the roads. Oh wait I see a snow plow going down my block. Oh my god he put about a 10 foot section of salt down at the stop sign and that's it. Wow lets not get to chintzy with that stuff now. You might prevent an accident....

They cut our salt with sand here cause they're cheap.

Okay so I need to go to the store but the car is encased in ice still and I can't get the doors open. I'm wondering how my man got the van doors open at 7am...?

Wish they would do that here, sand or even better Cinders. Its really not a case of cheaper but it affords for better traction and the sand/cinders are darker and absorb the suns heat and melts the ice faster so they use less salt.

Thank god for a Saturn, I just leaned against my door and buckled the plastic door panel and when it popped back out all the ice form the bottom of the window to bottom of the door popped right off! Getting it off the windows was a different story, broke 2 scrapers, ended up using my $20 BBQ spatula!

I just said they cut it with sand cause of cost because that's what they said on the news this morning.

I know sometimes they use only sand when it's less than 10 degrees out because the salt doesn't work.

I still haven't motivated myself to go out and try to open the door again. I'm going to take two big containers of hot water and try that (it works sometimes). I'd use my hairdryer with extension cord but I parked far away from the tree in the front yard last night because of falling branches, therefore the extension cord wont go that far!
