I have attached a few photos, sorry for quality but I got a cheap camera. I took 40 pictures and narrowed it down to these 4. I believe this to be ICH and I ran out last night and bought a set up to make a Hospital tank. In my rush to get it set up before I investigated the forums I filled it with distilled water and added salt. Then I read I should of used water from the display.
Anyway I'm in the process of bringing the salt gravity up to the same as the display.

Am I ok to continue with what I got going? In the meantime I have turned up the heater in the display. The hippo is the only one I see infected and he's a little over the size of a quarter.

The hospital tank is barebottom and stripped down to nothing but water and a HOB filter and a cheap wal mart power head.

Where do I go from here? I am treating the hospital tank with Mardels Coppersafe (small town, all I could find in a hurry) Thanks

You could do that. It will be less stressful for the fish if you put in some pieces of PVC pipe or somthing for it to hide in. The fun part you will see will be trying to catch him and get him out of you display tank.
If I were you, I would leave the BT in the DT as long as the BT is feeding. He should be able to fight off the ich by himself in time without medications. Just feed it healthy foods like seaweed and broccoli.

I hate the general consensus people get online with fighting ich.. OMFG GET THE FISH OUT DROP HIM IN FRESH WATER DUMP A COPPER INGOT ON HIS HEAD !#%..

I second Bogie's opinion.. good food combined with a healthy tank is all you should need to cure that

Thanks Bogie for the quick reply, I'll try some broccoli and seaweed mixed with a little garlic? Is turning the heat up a good idea as well? I'll leave the hospital tank up and running for a few days in case things worsen.

Keep the tank at 78-80 degrees, and it will be fine.

The problem with the QT tank and new water and no LR is you will have no biological filtration. You would have to do water change every other day so i would also try try to fight it first in the main tank unless it gets worse than use the main tank water in the qt and put him in and do a copper treatment. Do you have other fish?

I've found that a daily dose of Amquel+ to help with a emergency QT. I read about using it for QT I think on saltwater.about.com. Be aware that if you use Amquel+ it will render most ammonia test useless, however I have had success doing this with sick fish and new arrivals. The other option with frequent water changes would work out well to, I would think.

My advice although it may not be the popular standpoint is leave the tang alone. Do nothing different. Ich is common and you could do more damage to the tang by chasing him around the display to catch him place him in a QT and then repeat to return him. I would say just let the guy be and he will probably be ok.

If you just pull the one fish out , he will get better in you QT but as soon as he goes back in the DT he will get it again . Your blue tang are the worse for contracting it . If your not pulling all fish out its a waist of time and alot of stress on your fish that aren't sick . I would just make sure everyone is eating good healthy food . If your fish are acting normal and eating well , why change it ? You chance on losing more fish in the tank swaps and copper treatment than you will from the problem itself . Good luck with it
