Just curious, to all that have gone through a bad ich outbreak how long did it take for your fish to completely rid itself of the ich and what did you do to help? Basically just share your experience with ich.

Was up man---In my experience it just comes and goes. Especially with my Powdwer Brown--He always seems to have a little on him, especially late at night. The other Tangs just get it now and then--Yellow Never gets it, Naso never gets it. Only the Blue and Powder Brown. I just keep-em healthy and am religious on my water changes and maintenance. When they do get it, usually lasts about 2-3 weeks

Hey Robman, thanks for sharing. The reason I made this thread is because my yellow tang has had a moderate case of ich for about 4 days now and I was thinking it should be going away by now but you said it can take 2-3 weeks to go away makes me feel better. I'm just keeping a constant supply of nori in the tank for him and I'm trying to keep the water as pristine as possible.

I got it in my main tank from a powder blue. he's gone now and my yellow has been in a 20L quarantine tank for almost 5 weeks now. Next week I'm going to try my hand at a powder brown and see if it goes any better. If the main tank comes down with ich again, I'm going to try leaving it be and see if they can get over it on their own.

I'm also trying the "get over it on their own method". I hope it works.

awhile back my fire goby got ich he looked real bad but was still eating and swimming somewhat ok. He got over it and nothing else at that time got it.

My kole tang i added without qt... wrong thing to do.. he got it and had it for about a week and a half but got over it.

So far from my experince they can get better on their own given optimal conditions and enriched foods.

I have had ick at home and on the shop numerous times... Without writing a multiple page novel...esp since I am at work :D I will tell you this. I have tried just about everything you can.. herbal remedies, garlic, copper, formalin, huge water changes and nothing..... I have had success with all.

The thing is this, at least in my eyes/experience pulling an infected fish out of the DT(if possible) and putting him in a QT does not work... Why? Are you crazy you are all saying!!
Well, take out fish and treat... Ok, but what about the ick IN THE DT? OR the reason the fish got the ick in the first place? Is it stressed? Getting bullied? Not the proper diet and/or conditions? Once you put that fish back in the tank after treatment I can tell you there is a good chance he will get it again....

Like I said I would love to go on and on but sooner or later I will get busted! :D Search some of my older posts for various ways to fight ick, or if I have more time I will try to find them for you.

    Good luck!!

I added a flame angel to my tank after too short of a quarantine, and the next day my blue tang was covered in white spots. My flame angel then developed a few spots. At first I wasn't worried, and I treated with good diet, garlic, selcon. I also tried Kick Ich (a reef safe medication). The ich would come and go over the next few weeks, but then one day my flame angel died and all my fish got ich pretty bad. At that point I knew I had to treat them or they wouldn't make it. So I removed all my fish, treated with copper in QT for 3 weeks, and then kept them in a QT for 8 weeks while letting my DT lie fallow. I am currently on the 5th week, and occasionally add water from the QT to the DT (it is now copper-free) to introduce fish-scent to the DT to prevent the parasite from going dormant. The idea here is to keep the DT free of any ich. I will let you know how it works in the end.
