I was going to post this Thursday night.....
I picked up a Pacific Blue Tang and a Yellow Tang on Wednesday.
Thursday morning I woke up and saw a small bit of Ick on his right pectorial fin right at the very tip.
I do not have a hospital tank and did my normal acclimation......
So I went by the LFS where i bought it Thursday night and spoke to teh owners daughter who is a marine biologist and she said that is common...but this is where she kind of freaked me out......she said if your parameters are in check to leave it alone other than adding a little garlic additive to there frozen Formula Two....so did that Thursday night and then last night....well low and behold I woke up this morning waited for my 454 acticnics to come on and was shocked! No More Ick! Gone!

So I thought I would share this with all....

I feel because my tank is healthy and the garlic (Garlic Guard) the fish was able to either slug it off or my 2 large cleaner shrimp actually did there job!

Another situation of the old saying of Leave It Alone LOL

your not out of the woods just yet. Time will tell. algae (formula 2) helps there defenses, garlic is for appetite as well as something else.

Fingers crossed....he is a cool little bugger......about 3.5" and is one of the more open swimmers besides the Green Chromos's

I would like to think if it can kick that fast and my tank stays healthy it should not come back:-/

Even if it comes back, the fish will probably kick it again and then become immune to it. That's my experience anyways. I'm part of the "leave it alone" club. Once the fish become immune, the ich will eventual die out in your system - takes close to a year I believe.

ivehad my tangs get ick also. they both fought it off. IMO, as long as the fish is eating well and active , they should beat the ick battle by themselves. but also im agreeing with others , theres still a chance they will get it again. keep up the good fight PE . :)

garlic isnt a cure. it entices the fish to eat. helps with their immune system to make them stronger to fight off the parasite.

I am a great believer in the let it be club. I used to try and treat the tank with all the reef safe additives or pull the fish and put them in a hospital tank. Never had any luck with any of those methods. My last 2 tangs came down with ich when I first brought them home, all I did was feed a little heavy with garlic soaked foods, add a bit if selcon twice a week to the food and now both fish have been in the tank for over a year and are very healthy.
I have ich pop up every now and then if I am moving things around in the tank but it never lasts more than 2 days and its gone. ;D
