125 reef with 6 fishes. Established. Fishes been there for 3 years. The only aditions are corals. Fishes been happy and healthy. Suddenly they got ick. I don't understand. Will put all fishes in separate tank and do hyposalnity. The hard to got out will be Mandarin. I heard that they do not carry ick. Can I leave him in tank? Or he still needs to be treated? He will not make it.8 weeks with no pods...:( What you guys think? Thanks

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Mandarins do get ich, the protective slime coating assist in keeping it at bay, but under enough stress they will become symptomatic and it's just as deadly.

Can you house the mandarin in a friends tank or local reef club or LFS while you wait and let the display run fallow?

Adding corals to a tank can put ich in the tank. If there was any form of the life cycle in the tank where you got the coral from, it is very likely they can be on the coral or plug or rock that the coral is mounted on.

Since you caught it fairly early, I would not put the fish through hypo. If you can find someone to hold the fish for you, but then retreiving it after would be a task in and of itself, but at least it wouldnt starve. You could always dose the hypo tank with pods. not sure if they would tolerate the low salinity very long though.

Yes, probably you right. Iy is just do sad. I did not get new fish for over 4 years and still got ick.:'( It must have been on one of the corals I bought. Even that I always flush them with tank water bigoted put them in tank. I guess the only way is to put cross also to 6-8 weeks quarantine. Im still not sure. To get Mandarin healthy again enough is to take him out or he has to go thru hyposalnity?
