I know a snail can't be killed by Ich... But I don't know about hitchiking. Possibly.

there wasn't one fish at petco that didn't have it last night. such a shame because they had a beautiful dwarf lion that looked like he wasn't going to make it through the week

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Mairne inverts are not susceptable to marine ich. Any water that either comes in with the snails or fish can carry the parasite. Remember that marine ich has a reproductive cycle that includes a free swimming stage and a stage where it is found in the sustrate. If you see a tank that obivioiusly is having an issue with ich I would pass on anything in that tank.

Simple answer, yes it can be introduced via water transfere.

Never can trust petco for fish, all sorts of diseases. :( BUT, about 8-10 months ago, they came up with a medication for ICH that is reef safe. No copper, no nothing. It's called ICH-X. Works great.

More likely you are just seeing some resistance, no product that you can add to the tank that says reef safe is effective in eliminating mairine ich.

I have never had any issues with corals nor other inverts when soaking fish food in Metronidazole.

Maybe. Except can resistance really deplete ich? three of my fish had ich. A Sailfin Tang, Flame Angel, and a Clown Tang all had it. It was gone within 8 days of using the product.

Yes. That's why when I see Ich, I just increase feedings (soaked in vitamins and HUFA's) and soak their food in Metronidazole. Eventually, the fish will get acquired immunity to Ich.

(unrelated to this issue, have you researched the behavior of Sailfin and clown tangs? You're eventually going to have a war with those 2 unless you have a huge tank).
