looks like green hair algae - there's lots on this already written. Basics are water quality (especially using ro/di water), eliminating excess sources of algae nutrients - not overfeeding the tank, making sure your lights are not failing (replace any old tubes/lamps), and then getting the right scavengers - some snails are better than others. For turning over substrate I'd try narscissus (spelling?) and fighting conch.

    just my 2c.

    good luck!

If its on your substrate I'd just remove the affected substrate. Unfortunately mine is on the rocks and it's not that easy :(

Well my algae blenny seems to like the stuff on the rocks but won't touch the substrate, so I will scoop that out.

So far I have just switched to RO/DI (only 20% water change as of yesterday) and have cut back on the lights, from 12 hours down to 8 (bulbs are brand new). Also have cut back on food.

Any idea how long before I see some change? Don't want to go nuts trying something esle before I've given these a chance.

Yeah you gotta nip it in the butt quick. I thought I did but it still got bad and I'm still fighting it and going crazy from it!
