ID algae please!

I did add some egg create to hold up my skimmer

 

ive had the tank since December! ill post a better picture in a minute.

 

That is red slime algea. You can get some red slime remover and make sure to read the directions. Also, add a air stone to the tank during treatment. The red slime remover will deplete you oxygen levels and kill your fish, if you don't add the air stone. I've had that stuff before, that's how I know.

 

will it go away on its own?

 

I would treat it. I don't know if it will go away on its own. I don't like adding chemicals to my tank, but I got tired of seeing it, when I had it.

 

Becareful when using red slime remover as it can deplete your dissolved O2 levels.

 

I would opt for GFO over Red Slime Remover as the GFO completely eradicated the red and green cyanobacteria in my tank. I use 2 teaspoons for a 20g tank and replace it every 3-4 weeks.
