ID coraline Algae.

    I have a maroon color algae on my rock. It grows like coraline it has the same texture as coraline but it is not purple it is maroon. What type of algae is this?

    coraline isnt just purple. can be maroon or green also

    what color of green can it be.....like a crazy bright/flourescent green? or darker?

    ive had a bit of both actually. mostly a lighter green

    I've seen it from from a green so light it looks almost white to so dark it's like hunter green. Reds from pink to so deep it looks black. Oranges, yellows. The more types you have in your tank the more interesting imo. But it seems ime that purple is faster growing or more dominant or what ever and ends up covering everything.

    Yep just coralline. I have blue, greens, yellows, and all sorts of red/purples/maroon in my systems

    I have a bunch of the maroon, purple and green; I may have more in small quantities that I haven't particularly noticed though. The green seems to grow the best on the glass, while the maroon is dominant on the rock, and the purple is all over the place.

    Well if ou have green coraline, how do you know its coraline and not a nuicance green algae?

    scrape it with your fingernail. If it comes right off it's not coralline.
