My wife picked out this coral and it is her favorite one so far. We got him yesterday so he is still adjusting to the lighting and new tank. he hasn't inflated at all and seems pretty bad off so far, barley standing up in the current. his base looks like it was picked on last night and I'm worried about him.

I'm trying to get a good ID on him so we can know Lighting/ Water movement requirements. I'm sure he is a tree coral just not sure what type, can anyone help me out?

Looks like Pineapple Tree Coral to me. They come in several different colors.
Saltwater Aquarium Corals for Marine Reef Aquariums: Neon Pineapple Tree Coral - Aquacultured

Just to compare here is a photo of the same type of coral, different collection point, and different coloration.

Could also be a kenya tree, but its hard to tell what the polyp structure is near the tips.

My inclination is Colt coral (Cladiella sp.)...very much the same requirements.

I thought colt may have been a possibility, but the polyps don't run up the body of the branching. I have never seen colt coral that wasn't furry all the way up. Plus, with the polyps of colt, the tips wouldn't be exposed AFAIK, it would all be closed.

@ RTM, any chance you got glue on the actual coral? Leather's will absorb it into the flesh and eventually melt from that.

Yes, there is a chance I got glue on the bottom of it near where it is damaged. I feel bad for it being my fault but at least its not a crab picking at it like I thought.

Anything i can do at this point? or just leave it and let nature do its thing?

You can just pull it up, inspect the flesh and with a sharp razor blade remove all of the super glue one the flesh. It should recover, it doesn't look too bad yet.

I think that we might be overlooking the obvious here. Can you tell us a little bit about your setup (i.e. tank size, lighting, flow, parameters)? The actual problem could have something to do with water quality as well.
