Any Idea what these things are? The first PIC, I believe this thing killed my snail, as after I saw it my hermit began to consume the snail I pulled the shell out a couple of days ago and it was empty

the first picture is a bristle worm..looks like he's eating a dead snail...they generally dont eat live ones.

The first picture looks like a bristle worm or something to me. As for the second and third picture, I am not sure at all. Definately needs a reply from more experienced aquarists. The third picture looks quite ominous... I would be hesitant to keep it in my tank.

    Needs a better opinion though.

Agreed the 1st two pics are bristle worms, the last pic not 100% but if its a hard sharp calcified tube than it could be a vermetid snail

Thanks for the replies... Should I be concerned at all?

I think another snail bit the dust last night... I don't know for sure until I get home.

    1. Bristle worm doing what it is supposed to do, eat dead things.
    2. Almost looks like a Chiton, need better image, could also be a very large pod.
    3. Possible remains of Hydroid, Vermetid, or root structure from a macro algae.

If you have dying snails, check your pH and SG. With that said, with no algae to eat in a newer set up they die off as the available food source declines.

    I see nothing sinister.

*thumbs up* You're right on the chiton. I'm 100% sure of it, even with the current picture.

No need for alarm, imo, just the beginning of many wondrous things that will develop in your closed system...some good ..some bad. These things are in the not bad category. : )
    ..carry on. ; )

Food was a big concern for me with the snails, but my LFS gave me the thumbs up saying they'll be fine :-[ for a week now my rock started growing this brownish looking algea which is now going purple... So I moved my 6 snails off the glass and onto the rock...
My PH = 8.2 and my SG is @34ppm (1.025)

Thank you, I tried to get the best detailed shots I could... My digital camera cannot focus properly so I had to use my smart phone which I thought did a good job.

    Thanks again

The brown is Diatoms, and the purple is probably Cyanobacteria, both common in a newly set up tank.

If you are using RO/DI water both should resolve in a couple weeks.

Beware the LFS guy might tell you just about anything stocking wise, it's a business. Take stocking recommendations with a grain of salt and then do the research prior to purchase, it will save you money, you tank inhabitants stress and be a more rewarding experience in the long run.
