ID help

So I dunno, out of nowhere, seemingly over the weekend ive seen all these weird shell like things.. i noticed them first all over my hermit crab, now they are everywhere, on the walls, hardware, everywhere.. anybody know whats up? and if this is harmful? thanks guys

 

im not really sure what its called but i also have a little and it comes and goes . Ive never seen any negative effect on my tank with them there anyway.

 

No worries my friend....spirorbid polychaetes. In short, very tiny feather duster worms that use Calcium to build their tubes.

Quite common in newer tanks.

 

Inwall.. WOahh!! are you tellin me all those little guys are going to turn into full blown feather dusters!?? i mean i have a few regular sized dusters in the tank already, maybe thats where they came from.. wow.. thats kinda cool if so..

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Unless you have a MACRO mode on your camera, you'll never even see the feather duster end of things....you'll only see the spirals.

 

aww man, here i thought id have a feather duster farm.. delusions of being the towns "feather pusher".. ha ha.. oh well.. as long as their not harmful im good with it.. thanks for the help guys.. man, always something new
