ID please. Byopsis or hair algae

    growing fast in the sand. Started yesterday and already in like 3 places.

    could be either or none... honestly even with a better picture I wouldn't want to give a certain answer, since if it IS bryopsis, it would suck, and if not it's probably harmless...

    Compare what you go to the pics.. make sure the pic is of bryopsis tho, and not caulerpa, as a few are... they're labeled tho.

    I think I have this same algae in my tank. It only grows on the sand bad and propogates very quickly. I don't think mine is bryopsis because it does not have fernlike branches. I think it may be Cladophoropsis species 2. Check pic on this link View Cladophoropsis species 2

    I pull out tufts of it every other day to keep it under control. I recently added 2 trochus snails to see if they will eat it in my 120 gal. tank. I also have snails, hermits and red mythrix crabs but they don't seem interested in eating it. I am considering adding a rabbitfish because I don't currently have any fish that are herbivores in my tank.
