    This urchin just appeared after 4 months. What kind is it and is it reef safe?

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Hard to say, need a bigger image under some white light. Urchins are pretty benign, they are algae eaters, some eat coralline some other algae types. Rarely do you see an issue other than some are sensitive to changes in SG and pH. Nice hitch-hiker, just remember he is there before reaching behind the scape.

    Looks like a pencil urchin??? I'd keep a close eye on it, but its a cool hitchiker.

    Does it have a white ring around the base of each spine?
