ID this... Algae?

    Please help us ID this... is it an algae? It's dark-reddish and hairy. (Center of photo, not the flame algae.) Thank you!!!

    Looks like cyano to me.

    might be red turf too mine is really dark like that. its hard to see

    After looking at some photos online, it looks like it may be Gelidium. I'm pulling the rock out today...

    I have this bad bad problem with red turf so if its anything like that get it the hell out of there and nuke that bad boy.

    Should I just toss out the rock? It's not big, and instead of picking every last piece of algae off of it, I'd rather just replace it. Thoughts?

    I wouldnt, cyano is something you will have to deal with at some point, it is normal and will likely touch each rock in your aquarium at some point. Reducing nutrients, manual cleaning, clean up crews all work. You can use anti-biotic type products like chemiclean and the like too. If it is just on one rock I would take it out, toothbrush it and then place it back in.
