Was sold as a purple plating montipora. I guess it came from a guys tank who said it was an ORA purple montipora but he let the tank go and run with really old bulbs for awhile. Had been at the lfs for a bit making a recovery picked it up for $10 hoping its turn into something nice. I do not see any polyps or growth after a couple weeks but no bleaching or anything either. The one in front is a montipora confusa, but I have no clue what the other one is.

Definitely a type of plating monipora. The polyps are very tiny and will be in between the ridges.

Does it look healthy?? I have looked real close and cant find polyps but I figure they may be almost too small to see.

Im assuming since its a monti it should be fine as it grows out and touches the montopora confusa?

Looks an awful lot like Idaho Grape at a glance.
Looks to be in good condition. The polyps on montis are on the larger side for SPS; they'll easily be visible when extended.

And no, one monti will win over the other. They might not sting another, but one will overgrow its neighbor.

If it is an Idaho grape than it willd be really nice once it colors up!! I guess time will tell.

I though people often grow different montis in close proximity to show a variety of colors. They are not touching but if they grow well than one day they would, would I just have to break off frags to make sure they dont shadow each other?

Like stated I cant find a single polyp, wasnt able to in store either. I guess as long as it doesnt bleach out I shouldnt be concerned?

Might be a Vase monti. The pattern looks similar although right now mine is a flat piece, but the edges are curled up. I broke it into a larger and smaller piece to make it fit and placed them so that one is almost vertical and the other horizontal hoping that thy will fuse together someday and make an interesting growth pattern.

It seems we can agree it is def a montipora of some plating variety, jsut do not know which. High light and high flow for now and I guess time will tell based on growth patterns what it really is

Looks much different than my Idaho Grape, if that helps.
