    Reef safe? Return to LFS? Nuke? suggestions?

    reef safe to a point, rather clumsy creatures that have a tendency to aquascape in a way you would rather they did not

    i am not sure if this is the same crab. i know its diff colors but the body shape is similar (not the shell though) mine doesnt eat anything but algea but will knock corals over if not secured. can someone give an id on "big blue"?

    I think that is Calcinus Elegans - neon blue striped hermit crab or elegant hermit crab

    ya thats him. i really need to be writing, or printing off all the info on my tanks inhabitants and keep it in a binder. this guy is a machine eats algea like crazy. thanks for the id steve

    and it says it eats cyno according to this site:

    The Electric Blue Hermit Crab is a great addition to a saltwater aquarium because it eats many kinds of algae, including red slime algae (cyanobacteria), and sifts the sand, as well. If there is not enough algae in the aquarium to sustain them, the hermits' diet should be supplemented with seaweed.

    he is about...2-3 inches. with his shell.

    im worried he isnt reef safe. i found him on top of my brain that its high on top of a rock... i thought he was doing something to it so i took him and gaved him a time-out in the other side of the tank.:eek:

    should i return it to LFS?

    do you have a sump? if so just chuck him in there until you get an id.
