Ok so before the pics, here's the info....

I bought this from my LFS as a Yellow Coris Wrasse, now I know some Wrasse change patterns as they mature and look different as adults than they did as juviniles.... I wasn't aware of the Yellow Coris being one of these, and still am not certain... hense the ID my Wrasse thread.

To start a picture of a "normal" Yellow Coris

http://www.petsolutions.com/images/200/149300L.jpg (hope the link works I had to rip a pic off the net)

And here are many pics of my "Yellow Coris".....

    Some random angles

Please excuse the scratches lol. ... him posturing so you can see there's only one spot on his dorsal....

And one pic from the net as its better quality than mine (they still had no info w/ pic though)
    http://www.liveaquaria.com/images/categories/product/p-76385-wrasse.jpg

The only notable differences would be that the "normal" Yellow Coris has 3 spots down the dorsal, and does not have the painted face, fins and tail like mine.... they seem to be relitivly the same size... mine is at about 4-5 inchs and doesn't seem to be getting any bigger (have had him/her for 6 months or so) and he/she is completly reef safe!

So whatr everyones opinion on this?? The owner of the LFS said that this Yellow Coris Wrasse coloration variety comes from Bali, but isn't Bali in Indonesia? And I thought the Yellow Coris WAS from Indonesia? Could it be that the Yellow Coris changes as it matures? Afe the males just colored differently than the females? Is it really a different color variety?

All opinions and suggestions welcome! And thanks for reading!

It's simply a yellow coris wrasse from a different island. This happens a lot with wrasses.

What's even funnier is that a yellow coris wrasse is not even a coris wrasse, it is a halichoeres wrasse. Coris wrasses are definitely NOT reef safe, but halichoeres wrasses are.

see, the term yellow coris wrasse has stuck, even though it's not a coris wrasse.

Thank you Horkn... I figured it was something of that sort. I did know that they weren't true Coris Wrasse but I didn't know the name of the "family" they were in.... I think most true coris get big also

    yep, big and nasty.

For an example of different sub species of wrasses, the Christmas wrasse has one of like 7 distinct subspecies and minor coloration differences depending on what island chains they are collected from.

My scott's fairy wrasse I got recently is a cook island male, while the aussie and the Fijian scott's fairy wrasses look a lot different from each other varieties.
