i have found something very similar in my tank and cannot figure out what it is, the pic i posted has the two tentacles i am speaking of towards the upper-center of the image, they move independently of the current, feeling around on the rock as well as the water column. maybe they are the similar to your situation, hope this helps!

I think I found an ID actually. I think my problem was that I was searching for worm hitchhikers.

I'm thinking these are digitate hydroids. I found an image of one that looks almost exactly like what I was seeing in my tank this morning.

now my problem is determining if they are bad and how to get rid of them. I have found mixed information - some stating they were ok and went away on their own and most stating that they were bad or that the aquarist didn't want to take chances. The issue is that there seems to be no good way to get rid of them. Any ideas?

I am just as blind because I still dont even see the circled pic worm. I would agree as stated though it is unlikely a problem most "worms" are harmless. It is definately not worth worrying and is definately not causing your zoas to melt.

On another note people have really got to chill out. so someone could not ID a worm in your poor pic. He was suggesting a new camera so we could see and ID better not that you should go out today and drop a tom of cash on a new camera! If you dont like the answers or suggestions you are given sorry we are not self proclaimed experts we are only fellow hobbyists giving you our experience in saltwater.

geez! Tired of coming on here and seeing people get upset when I am just looking for info myself to help my tank when I have a problem.

    ok off of my soapbox

thanks for the soapbox rant - though I think you are the one who needs to chill. I already acknowledged that my pic was crappy and merely stated that I wasn't about to go spend money (presumably a lot to get a pic of something this small seeing how I would need a macro lens $$$$$$) merely to get a pic of one thing that I may not even need to worry about. I also stated that if my pic was too crappy to get an ID from, then no worries. I don't expect expertise, and I appreciate the help I do get.

To rid your self of small areas of hydroids use some epoxy to cover them as needed, remove epoxy after a week. Higher than desired suspended particles from over feeding will greatly increase their numbers so watch feedings as well.

cool. thanks for the advice. I'll pick up some epoxy to cover them up. I only seem to have the two of them now, so hopefully I caught it soon enough. I don't feed much, so I'm not too concerned about my feeding causing spreading, but I'll be sure to keep it in check.
