    Long Version:
Today I picked up a larger (29) tank for my 2 GSPuffers. I am currently using a cast iron stand that has a second shelf near the floor to hold another tank. I was planning on using the old 20L that I was replacing as a sump when an idea hit me. I can pick up another 20L for fairly cheap and have a triple stack, utilizing the same floor space, but providing me with room for a visible frag tank instead of hiding it in the stand of my 85. This would also increase my total capacity to roughly 65G which is just about perfect for 2 adult puffers. After measuring, I realized that moving 1 shelf and adding another probably wouldn't work out all that well, as I would lack the room to reach into the 2 lower tanks.

When I moved into my apartment a couple years ago, the previous tenants left their bed frames. I thought that they might be useful at some point in the future and put them in my storage unit.

    Short Version:
Use old bed frames to build a stand that would hold a DT, Sump, and Frag tanks.

    Question:
I own a welder and can borrow a cut off saw to cut the bed frames down. This way I can set the tank shelf heights to whatever I want. How well will this work out? and is there anything else I should be taking into consideration before attempting this project?

I think I get your idea, it would be display on top, then frag tank under that then sump under that? I would just weld on to the stand you already have and put the display and frag next to eachother, extend the existing stand over the length of the frag and add and extra 2 legs to that side and then put the sump below and close everything in with wood. I think I have the same iron stand on my 29gal.

That's not a bad idea, but I'd rather make the stand taller. The current stand with the 29 barely comes above my waste when I'm standing up and I'd rather have it closer to eye level.

BTW, i'm certain this will hold up to weight as long as it is welded properly. I just wanted to put the idea out there for people who were looking to make their own stand. You can get a bed frame from Good Will for about 8 dollars, which contains about 20' of angle iron. Compare that against buying the material by the foot and you are looking at saving quite a bit of money.
