Just out of curiosity, what's the ideal level of phosphate in ppm (mg/L)?

good call, mine is between 0 and .25, so I guess I'm good. What about alkilinity and pH?

My ALK is about 13 or 14 dKH and my pH is about 7.8.. How do I lower my ALK and raise pH?

As long as the alk is fine then the PH needs no worry.. Time of day time of yr all effect the P.H its just an indicator of the available carbonates to control acids

Thanks, My nitrites are skyrocketing at the moment... Is this part of the cycle (i've never analyzed it from a chemistry standpoint, I just waited a few weeks for my nano).

yes you will see ammonia spike then nitrites spike and then nitrate will slowly raise once your ammonia and nitrites hit 0 and stay there while still feeding the tank with anything that can decay then it is time to start adding live stuff like fish and other critters
