It may not be very aestic, but it s functional and leaves the top open. You could also build and open canopy. Same idea but with wood, lol. Have some kind of support for you lights going across, then a 10+ wall so your fish will not be able to jump out. If they do, then they were not meant to be in your tank, lol, and I would look into what is making them jump out. Usually it is stress from tank mates. I.E. somethings chasing them!

You could also get yourself 1 of those invisible fences they use for dogs & put it around the top of the tank!!! :)

I bought egg crate and have 250 MHs running now. I to thought it would melt the stuff but it doesnt even get that warm to the touch. there sitting about 6 inches from the top of the crate. its not to expensive at home depot and very easy to fit to size.

What did you use to cut your egg crate to fit?

Well i tried to use scissors but the little plastic tabs just break right off. so i just took a screwdriver and hit them. If you get any you will see how easy it is to make to fit. maybe have to trim some broken edges with a knife. go to lowes or home depot and look for lighting diffuser.. when you pick it up all your question will be answered lol. just be carefull not to break it or hit it real hard cause its flimsy.;D
