im doing my first reef right now. i say give it a shot. if you really study up and pay attention to the important details, its actually pretty easy and rewarding. just make sure you get reliable advice because when you first start out every question you ask will render 10 polar opposite answers. i still have people telling me that things are going to happen to my tank tomorrow, in a week, in 2 months, and they never happen.

The only downside a see, is it a 29 tall or standard? If it's a tall, it might not be the best choice for a reef.

That was my first thought also. what are the dimensions of your tank. If its a tall it would probably save you money and headaches to buy a 30 gallon long and start with that.

the length of it is 30 inches idk the difference between the two because this is the only 29 ive seen, why would this make it so difficult though ?

I think they are saying that a 30 inch long tank is not that easy to find lighting kits for
there are very few options in the T5 category for example

if you had a 36 inch long tank, then all the major brands do cater for that size with 36 inch canopies with 39 watt lamps in

the full 12 inch lenghts - 24, 36, 48, 60 etc - most manufacturers cater for these sizes
with only a couple of choices for the between sizes like 30 and 40 inch lenght tanks

thats what I believe they are reffering to

Buy a larger tank and use the 29 gallon as a sump/fuge
