Identification

3reefers...I need your helppppp. I am sorry about having no photo of the critter, but my camera is being mean with me and won't connect. Well here goes my best description of the critter, which I believe to be either a)cucumber, or b)slug of some sort.

Right now, it is roughly 1" long, a tannish brown color, with many little tentacles sticking out of its body. Each tentacle is basically like a caterpillar foot, with stickies on the end. Each sticky is a black color, and it can latch onto things such as plastic and glass and crawl up. One end is thinner than the other. I think it is a cuke, but I want to be sure before I add him to my tank.

 

That is the closest I can find to what I have. The one I have right now has less spines and is tan.

 

Hmm, don't know that I can really help, but I did not think cucumbers had tentacle like appendages...I am not certain. Perhaps it is and echinoderm?(sp?) Let me see what I can find....brb

Thanks. I don't really know what to call them. I will just say caterpillar feet, because basically, they are just sticky pads that it moves with, clinging to glass and such.

Are the feet thingies just out to the sides and bottom? Or on the top as well?

I can admit defeat! I don't know! LOL!!! ;D But from what I have read, cucumbers have little suction cup feet things just like starfish and urchins.

 

Ya. It is so hard to explain this kind of thing, and have people understand. I thought it was a cuke. But yes, the legs are on all sides. The legs are all parallel and run down the length of its body,, each with a black tip that I suppose is a sticky foot. It has, by my guestimate, about 7-8 rows of these legs, each leg roughly 1-2 mm apart, each row of legs roughly 2-3 mm apart.

 

Ok, so we got , radial symmetry, sticky feet, and a soft body? Sounds like Echinoderm family and I would venture to say, a cucumber. But I am at a loss to help you narrow it down any more.

Perhaps when you get the pic on your computer and uploaded here, maybe Gresham can help with the ID. He is good at that stuff! ;D
