identifying glass/plexi/acryl

hello all..
I am getting prepped to establish my sump/fuge baffles and have a few questions.

I *ahem* inherited a large sheet of either plexiglass or acrylic and I cannot tell which it is. I am assuming it is plexi-glass. The stuff is nice and clear, is 1/4" thick, a 3' piece bends fairly easily and a damaged corner is chipped unevenly and only a quarter the corner (thickness wise) is not chipped off. it also scratches fairly easily with a knife. I used the stuff as a rain roof for a 10K forklift.

also what would bond glass and plexiglass for gluing the baffles in?

plexi glass is acrylic. plexi glass is a brand name of acrylic

only use isp weld-on 16 or the 2 part 40

finding a decent glue will be fun here in Japan.

 

both are isp products, the 2 part 40 is more for tubing to flat surface. the 16 is thick and works wonders. google the product or find an acrylic store. shipping may hurt depending on where it comes from since its considered a hazardous material. if online the cheapest i found was $95 for 1 gallon. at the acrylic supply shop near my house i buy 2 for that price. the DIY calcium reactor thread was made with acrylic and 16

 

I have an aquarium specific glue i used for my DIY denitrator.. it didn't stick to the PVC very well but I will give it a shot on a test piece of acryl and glass.

 

1/4" is fairly thin so you wouldnt be able to build anything bigger then like a 30g or something.

 

just using it for baffles in a 16 gal.

 

Nothing to a specific pipe but the specific glue made for that particular plastic PVC ABS CPVC Acrylic are all different materials and this is not a glue its a chemical weld process , Thats why with PVC you have to use a the primer as that starts the weld or fusion. PVC glue is totally aquarium safe . Also with the Plumbing plastics you can't glue one type directly to the other as it will never pass inspection in the states you have to change from one to the other with a mechanical seal coupling or fitting..

 

If your just cutting it up and using it as baffles you could just use Aquarium Silicone, thats all I used in 30g glass tank with acrylic baffles.

 

weld-on is for plastic to plastic. silicone would be used for glass with acrylic. if the tank is acrylic and silicone is used the tank will bow and break the seal of the bead.
