So my girlfriend an I stopped by one of our lfs yesterday and as we were looking, one of the workers was walking through with a group of sketchy guys bagging fish for them. I'm guessing that the must have just got the tank up and going because they bought around 12 fish. Anyways, they wanted all sorts of fish that wouldn't get along and I heard the worker suggesting that they don't put certain ones together and what not. As the worker walked away my girlfriend told me she heard them say how they should get the fish and "let them fight it out and see who's the badass". We were really disgusted by the things that they were saying but you could also tell they knew nothing about the hobby. I just really wonder at what point should the worker refuse to sell them the fish? I know it's a business but I think they have a responsibility.

I've always been told, "the customer is always right". However, I would have certainly suggested that those fish, in experience, will not cooperate with on another, as he did. I would have stressed that point home several times.

Those dudes sound like some really inhumane folks. Class act.

My wife and I have a Fish Store close which is owned by an older gentlemen and if these idiots would of walked in they would be escorted to the door and not to come back until they are well equipped with the knowledge to take care of the sea creatures. Plus he would ask for Tank size and cup of tank water before even picking.

Sure, to test the water. To be able to honour any guarantee. No point in throwing good money after bad if the people are keeping their fish in a toilet and killing them....::)

In this case, I sure hope that store doesn't honor any guarantees when those doofuses come back in with shredded dead fish.

Both LFS I frequent ask what size system and established inhabitants before any sales. I have seen both strongly advise against a certain fish, recommending another more suitable. That's the way it should be IMO.
