Does that mean I automatically have a large amount in my rocks and sand?

for the longest time I thought my tank had no kind of pod population, then today I happened to be looking around the tank while my lights were coming on to my surprise I saw a whole bunch of white specs moving around on my glass so I got out my magnifying glass and sure enough they were copepods, I was quite surprised and pleased to them. I'm just curious if this is just a start of the population or if this means that there is a lot more than I think there is in the tank.

wasn't sure where else to post this, general topics sounded like the best place

Probably both...there are more elswhere than you can see on the glass, and you might be having a bloom. Benthic/demersal copepods generally hang out on the tank panels because there's food on there, the same is true for your rockwork, only the pods are more easily spotted on the glass.

i agree with greg@lionfishliar. pods are everywhere in your system. spotting them easily as you did, there is definitely a good amount of them in your aquarium.

    Yep, you got em!

Funny, I started with old, dead CC substrate- hadn't been wet in over three years, almost all of my rock was 3 yr old stored base rock too.
I got a few pieces of live rock with corrailline on it.

And I've got pods, bistleworms, etc. all from the few pieces of LR!
