Got this on my 1 lb piece of liverock today, guy said it is some kind of sponge, I love the yellow color and hope it lives since he took it out of the water and I know they say sponges are sensitive to air. Sorry for the bad pictures but can anyone tell me if in fact this is a sponge and if so is it good to have?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Based on the image I would say sponge as well.

It's hit or miss with some sponges. I agree very pretty coloration.

I would keep it shaded and just hope for the best, hopefully you have just the right kind of suspended particles it requires to stay healthy and grow.

Thanks, I will try to get better pictures at some other point but had already placed the rock in the tank before taking pictures. I did place it so the sponges would be facing the substrate and not the light source so it was hard to get a good picture. The tank is still cycling ammonia is 0 but i have high nitrites and nitrates still.

once you get a sponge, if there is amble particles in the water they will grow and multiply and soon you will have them everywhere! keep in mind their extreme dislike of air. they are a good sign of a healthy tank (healthy sponges meens healthy tank, often they wil be some of the first inhabitants to die when something is wrong) they like powerheads to. they need current to bring them particles to feed off of. warning-if one dies it will quickly fowl the water and in turn kill other stuff and can cause a tank crash.
