I would go with ATB as they have great customer service, use the same Askoll pumps, and have the same hot air welded Acrylic/pvc construction. That being said, you can get an excellent skimmer for less as other manufacturers have been producing excellent products. At the moment I like the new Warner Marine MF series, Skimz Monster II, and SWC with Askoll pump.

Personally, I wouldn't spend 2k on a skimmer.. I would spread my filtration around for redundancy. If you find yourself needing a 2k skimmer.. Get 1 1k skimmer, a turf scrubber, and a fuge for 2k... or oven 2 1k skimmers so if one fails you have a back up.

I believe they were asking you what size the tank/system the skimmer is for and whether it is external or internal.

If I had $2K for a skimmer I would buy a psk-75, then make a couple truck payments & house payments with the rest.
