You dont need a protein skimmer unless you have Acro's/over feed/over stocked tank. I only use one protein skimmer on one of my tanks, and thats because it has acro's in it.

How often and how big are the water changes without a skimmer?

I hear ya there. My old english teacher Mrs. Lupton taught us the importance of good grammar and spelling when communicating to others. Her other big thing was "Baptism by Fire". Excellent teacher she was. She used to show up at the reunions but was not at the last. Kind of makes me nervous.

Depends on the tank... Basically 5g per 25g of tank every 2weeks. If the tank has a lot of sps in it, which I have a lot of monti's in a 50g, then I bump it up to 15g every 2 weeks.

LoL yes and cuttin you will be at the tip top of that list!

I don't know about that. The tentacles looked pretty bubbly last night. I'll try to get a pic of that...actually they look that way now, these pics suck but it's the best I can do with this camera I hardly know how to use:

But regardless of the species, I've never had something like this happen before and that's the root of my excitement.

Thanks Luna! LoL it's not that I have a life, I usually just drink my weekends away. How have you been, btw? And your wife?

I don't do regular water changes. Maybe 20 gallons twice a year. Just top offs.

Oh and to clarify the joke of the thread title was that the anemone broke up with itself. HA I know....lame....whatever...cheers!! ::)

Anemones split a lot of times when you move them into a new tank. One of my friends raise GBTA and he moves them from tank to tank every couple of weeks to encourage them to split. Its a stress thing, when an anemone freaks out, it splits. Its called survival mode. If you have a particular coral you want to multiply really fast and you know its happy spot in the tank, then frag part of it off. The coral will think its being attacked and it multiply/grow much faster to ensure the species will live on.

What kind of camera is it? Make and model etc....

Been just great, family is great, tank looking great, corals doing great and the wife you ask? Lets just say that Im re-evaluating that statement that I made when I was on the alter. " To death due us part" , The parting might come sooner than the death. :hehe: Luna

I'm shocked... I never really knew you DIDN'T need a skimmer unless you had all those things!!
