    IME you can run an air driven skimmer in the DT
    I know it takes up room , but if you have an open topped tank
    a small air driven skimmer would be great on a 29 gallon tank

    +1 on sub 20ppm not being the end of the world with softies and fish

    what filration do you have, as you could look at chemical media to help control your nitrates ( Purigen took my 10ppm to 0 in a 5ft - but there are other nitrate absorbing products that if you run a cannister filter could be utilised to reduce or even eliminate those nitrates for you)

    i have a HOB filter....its a dam good one tho lol...no sump....no skimmer..35 punds of LR and 25 pounds of sand
