    Me and my dad decided we want a octopus in are 29 gallon bio cube reef tank we have the stock pcs it comes with are levels are perfect we have 1 mandarin goby and we want a octopus WHAT species of octopus will not outgrow are tank? we won't be getting any fish just this octopus for the whole tank and i now they eat crabs and fishes so what i really want to now is what species is going to work with my bio cube and the lighting we have and whats good food to feed them i want to feed him live things

    I would not recommend taking a wild caught octopus and putting it into a saltwater tank. Most of them only live about 6 months in captivity. If you can get 12 months out of one, you are incredibly lucky.

    Octopus really shouldn't be in home tanks, and if they are, they need much bigger tanks. They can escape too - yikes. Probably not the best idea.

    No, and none.

    Like I said, there's not a whole lot out there that's tank bred, and even less that's going to be easily available.

    The best thing to do is to get a couple years of sw under your belt before taking on animals such as octopus, sea horses,......... There so many interesting fish and invert combinations out there that have a much better success rate. I would encourage you to try your hand at something less demanding. Keeping an octopus is much like keeping a cat. They need daily interaction and close observation. The water needs to be monitored frequently. Lastly as someone else posted they live very short life span.

    ^^^^what they said^^^^ an octopus is a cool animal but they are not for inexperienced aquariast. there are other cool and interesting animals in this hobby that you can enjoy just as much. JMPO
