I would beg to differ, but that may be my own opinion. I do want to compliment you on the advice you've given though, it's been very good and I hope he listens.

I meant particularly the comment about the humpback whale.....
I agree, a lot more research needs to be done on his part. I wasnt trying to start anything on here though but I just thought that things could have been stated differently.....I noticed that he was 15. All is good::)

You know it irritates me when all I see is stupid answers and people telling someone to "research"! He was asking us what we though, why can we just be nice and give him some Ideas.

I have seen lots of small Niger trigger's in the stores lately, they have always been one of my favorites. I think that they have the best disposition and lots of character too. That would be okay for a while, although you will eventually have to trade it in on a smaller version a couple of years down the line.

Schackmel, really nice and informative post, thanks for the info!

If you are wanting something a little different, esp one that eats live food.....
look into an angler. It is a species only tank, meaning mandarin will have to go, but they are very very cool imo.

or you could do my personal favorite for that size of tank....a peacock mantis! Again, species only, but you could keep your mushrooms, etc

if you are wanting to go with something different, there are suprisingly a lot of cool things you could go with!

Perhaps some research would be more beneficial than recieving recommendations to put a fish that can reach 20 inches long in his 29 gallon tank.

this was HIS answer to us trying to help. we were trying to give him advice from research and personnel experience. What do you expect? we were trying to help him and got answers like this. IMPO if you dont want advice dont ask questions. we are all on here to learn and help as much as we can and telling someone they need to do some of there own research is not a bad thing.

People tend to follow advice much better when they are spoken to instead of spoken down.

I don't think you started anything, and I do agree some comments may have been a little in appropriate.

OP, I know you're young, but you can't ask a question and then make rude comments when you get an answer you don't like. Everyone here wants you to succeed and sometimes that means telling you the way it is. Of course, you can go ahead and get the octopus, no one is going to stop you, but you will be wasting your time, money and a creature's life. This type of thread will come up every now and then with a person wanting a creature they neither know enough about nor have the skill to care for. Not surprisingly, they normally react the way you, no real big deal though, it's the internet after all. However, it would be most wise to heed the given advice. Most people who post on these boards want a creature of some sort, but either don't have the skill to care for it or a large enough tank etc. It's part of this hobby that some things we just shouldn't have.

As for the trigger, I would disagree that you should have one in that size tank. Not only are they not considered reef safe, which seems to be a concern of yours, but they get very large, are more aggressive and as with with predatory fish, are messy eaters requiring better then average filtration and maintenance.
