We bought this Green Bubble Anemone on Saturday

it looked fine until yesterday where we found it shriveled up looking like this.

We took it out of the tank because we heard it can release toxins into the water. It's tentacles still move a little bit but the tips don't look so good.

Can you tell me what's happening to it? Before this happened it was just as beautiful as it was when we first got it. It was in a 30 gallon tank with regular water levels with good lighting. But the night before it ended up like this it was floating around the tank circling above the live rock.

We're really new to saltwater aquariums and this tank has only been set up for a little more than a month and a half. I read somewhere last night that a tank should be at least a year old before getting anemone and we did not know this before buying.

    Here's some recent pictures:

Yup that nems toast. You really need to wait longer before attempting one, What are you water parameters?? What Kind of lighting?

    Yikes!

Looks like you got him out just in time. What tests are you running on your water?

And yes, that tank is very young for a 'nem.

Thanks for the pixs of your bubble anemone

i'm sorry about your loss - i get very attached to my watery friends. i'm new to this new method of marine aquariums. i had a 55 gal tank in the eighties and things have changed so drastically.

thanks for the pixs - i too thought my new green bubble anemone was dying but it doesn't look anything like your pixs.

thanks again and best of luck

The trick with anemones is buying a healthy one. Many in the stores are already dying, and in the majority of cases once they start dying its hard to get them to recover.
Whenever i have bought one the key thing to look for are

The base - is it torn?
Can you see any of the filaments inside hanging out? You know that white stuff thats all squiggly.
The mouth - if the mouth is gaping, its normally in bad health.
Colour, never buy a pale looking anemone.

Your tank is probably a little too young to buy an anemone, you should wait at the least 6 months for all your parameters to stabalize. Anemones need pristine water conditions, try to aim to the same conditions that SPS would require.
Lighting is so important with an anemone, what type of lighting do you have?
