Hi guys. The nightmare of all aquarists has come. I have to move to a new appt. this weekend. I have everything pretty much thought out. I just have one question. I would like to clean all the aragonite before introducing it to the new tank. How would you do this without greatly affecting the bacteria population. I would obviously do it with saltwater, but, can it be done? Thanks!!

I wouldn't do it. It's risky. What do have in your tank that you wouldn't mind losing. The potential for an ammonia spike is pretty good.

Also try to save as much water from the old tank as you can (if possible). This is LFS advice, so take with a grain of salt (like always ;))

LOL Dador I did a move from Kissimmee FL to here in GA about 7 hours away May 2006...only lost one crab! I remembered that and the mop! Had some vinegar too for the stuff behind the tank on the wall that had been there for a few years...kinda ate the paint and some of the drywall off, but I repainted that area and they never noticed LOL

It's like jackets and tissues! My wife NEVER forgets them. Even my 10 year old daughter reminds all three of my sons and me to bring coats, tissues, water, whatever.LOL

Ok, thanks y'all. I won't forget the towels. So I'm not cleaning the aragonite. I have already 25 20 liter containers to transport all the water. Good thing is I will make up for 6 months of doing no exercise. Hope everything arrives well to destination.

    Don't envy you.

Thought of having to move tank is so terrifying...convinces me I will have to die in front of it before I attempt such a thing. :-/

Looks like I will be in this house forever. :p

I moved my tank about 6 months ago, had 10 5g buckets, used 2 for rock, 1 for fish and other living things. Left the aragonite in the tank which made it ride good in the back of the truck but way sucked carrying it into the basement. The rest of the buckets I filled with the tank water and I already had moved my 30g sump and filled it most the way up with tank water prior to the final haul. Had one death, lost my pepermint shrimp but the fish and corals moved well. Only moved about 15 min away from my old house.

Good luck, hope it all goes well.
