ok, well, I am moving my tank tomorrow and i have some questions..

    1) where do i put my fish while I take the tank to the other house? and how long can they stay there. ( keep in mind that the house im moving to is only two houses away)..

    2) a company is coming and helping me do the move, they are charging by the hour.. anything i can do to speed it up? any things i should be looking at to make sure everything goes ok?

    3) when everything is moved... where do i mix my salt? lol i dont have a 150G bucket or anything.. nor do i have enough buckets/ time to mix 1 bucket at a time. can i just dump water into the tank, and then add the salt?

    4) any other suggestions i may find helpful?

    1. Your fish will be fine in a 5 gal bucket for quite a while. If longer then 3 or 4 hours you could put a powerhead in with them to keep the water moving.
    2. Have everything already packed aand ready to go
    3. I would get enough containers to bring all your tank water with you. every tank I have moved, I try to take as much of the tank water so as not to cause another cycle, which you may have anyways from moving stuff around. Also try and keep all your rock in water while moving, this will also help when you set it back up at your new place.

    good luck with the move

i agree that i would try to move as much of the water as possible. you might mix your water in a plastic trash can (probably all plastic these days so showing my age). Also, i would just go with all new sand. i wouldn't move the old except for a little to seed. my understanding is that this will usually cause a cycle.

good luck. moving my tank is something i dread. unfortunately it will happen since i am currently in an apartment.

probably depends on how severe. i remember a thread where someone listed the do's and don'ts of moving a tank. maybe someone will post the link.

If you keep you rock underwater then you shouldn't lose to much bacteria, there for if you do have a cycle, it should just be very small and should be easy to manage. if ammonia goes up just do a water change. also moving as much of the old water over will help with this.... I have saved the sand before also with no ill effects, but I think it would be better to change it out. If you are going to keep the sand, leave it in the tank with a couple inches of water over the top of it and try not to disturb it to much.

that might be good advice for the 29 but i would be cursing you on the 150 if you left any sand and water in there and i had to carry it.. :)

is it absolutely necessary that you move the tanks with all the other stuff? I'm only asking so you don't have to be rushed and make hasty decisions. If so, since its just 2 houses down, you could go get some plastic tubs for your fish and any new water you will have to mix. get the water mixing with a powerhead and a heater, so its perfect when you need it. you will more than likely want to have extra ready for water changes if you see an ammonia spike.

I think he is asking whether or not you can move your furniture etc... separately from your tank so that you can concentrate solely on the tank rather than doing it all at once. So, to re-ask the question, can you move your furniture, appliances and etc say tomorrow and the tank the next day?
