My 75g was given to me fully stocked and three years old. The previous owner had a two plus inch Sailfin Tang, veliferum, it's my favorite fish. I knew he'd not be able to stay because the tank's too small. He's always very active and I set up LR to give lots of open swimming space, but I am starting to see that he's getting too big. It's almost time to give him up. I don't want him to get hurt on a rock. I'm soooo sad but it's best for the fish. If I give him to someone local, I can still visit!!

I don't get this grounding probe thing, I have read the pros and cons of this and see no proof that a grounding probe adds any added protection other than a false piece of mind and another way for people to sell other people something they do not need. I have very limited knowledge in this hobby as well as experience. I started in April of this year and had a tank up and running for a couple months before I even heard of the concept of grounding my tank. My friend says he had a Blonde Naso Tang in a 75 gallon, long for 5 years and it was large enough to filet and grill for dinner. He never had a grounding probe. Also, I have never seen these things for sale either online nor at the LFS...of course I never specifically looked for one either...lol

BTW...not looking to troll, just my 2 yen

Hmmmm You have been in the hobby for how long???? You have never heard of this grounding probe thing??? Pros and Cons?? Exactly what are the cons to grounding your tank??? Go talk to all of the other folks who couldn't figure out why their fish were doing so poorly untill they put a grounding probe in. My buddy had a gold rim tang in one of his frag tanks and it started looking like death. Just a horrible fade to his color. As soon as grounding probe went in, he started swimming a little better and within a couple of weeks he was looking great. Maybe it is a false sense of hope but better be safe than sorry.

Yes, that is right, even though I haven't been in the hobby long, I have common sense and I know a little about electricity so therefore, the article I read below makes sense to me. The jury is still out on this one for me, I have no first hand experience on this but I will not go wasting money on something that I do not need, especially if my fish appear healthy. The day I get a Tang and he appears ill and I can not figure out why, I will look at eliminating the cause of the stray voltage (faulty pump etc.) not try to throw a bandaid on a gaping wound, trying to cover it up. If the minute stray voltage from perfectly serviceable equipment is found to be causing the problem, then I will try a grounding probe. I don't know what you took from my post but I am not totally close minded.

PAVELOW, Just wondering what are the cons to having a grounding probe? I have read about the pro's but I'm not aware of a down side to having a probe.

Ive noticed on many occasions while in a lfs, especially at a busy time, like on a rainy sunday, there are plenty of people out there that want to buy a tank, some salt and a "Nemo Fish all that day,no matter what theyre told.I guess lfs employees can become too tired of dealing with this to ask questions of theyre own when someone requests that they catch and bag it for them.
