Thanks all of you for your input. I usually buy it for 7.99 per pound as i said but it was closed today and as long as i got this stuff for only 10 bucks and its has stuff growing all over it, im cool with that. And yet another question, if i am willing to save up for the rest of my tank being liverock, should i do it? or should i just go with the base rock? I only have like 6 5-6 inch peaces of liverock

I am starting to see that stocking a 20 gallon long tank with liverock requires a lot more live rock than anything else. Like for instance instead of a 20 tall. So i might have to go the rest with dry rock. long tanks could get expensive haha but i like long a LOT better than tall tanks

PS: answer this whenever you get the chance but what does maricultured mean? what do they do to make it have so much benificial algae on it?

i dont really have the money but im getting 40 today but i mean if its worth the investment, i would go with liverock. But with dryrock, i like it because they can come in big thin pieces and they just look perfect cause they were shaped into what they are. thats what i like about dry rock. However, how long do you think it will take the dry rock to start changing colors? thats my 1 problem. It not blending in with the rest. i know it wont be pink and red and green after a couple weeks but any suggestions of any change at all?

ok i have my mind set. Im going to buy about 15 lbs of fiji dry rock. Its very porous, cool looking, and looks VERY easy to aquascape. tell me what you think of this decision and is fiji rock any more expensive than any other? But this all depends on if my aquarium store provides them. Petco doesnt sell dry rock so i cant buy there. But the store i do buy from sells dry rock for 2.50 per pound. Is this good?

I like getting my hands on the GARF.org stuff. If you call Leroy or Sally-jo, they'll make it if they don't already have what you want whiped up. You can get the stuff for like 5 a pound, and they have specials several times a year when its only like 3.50 a pound. + you always get some of their grunge with the orders (and macro algae if you ask).

The best part of it is, they are conservationists. So once they collect animals they breed em and sell em so you don't have to get the wild stuff like to many companys do.

P.S. I just got a large order and the shipping was only like 12 bucks.

I went on craigslist and found a guy posting 60 lbs for 100 bucks.. went and met him, Turned out to be more like 120 lbs of insanely good pieces of fiji live rock that he gave me for 100 bucks.. it also had corals and polyps on it. Pieces ranged from 30+ lb rocks to 1 or 2 lb rocks.. some too large to fit in my 60 gallon tank so i had to break them (2ft wide and like 4 ft long flat shelf piece that im still a little mad i broke in half)

So yeah there are deals out there but you gotta be patient and jump on them when you find one.

I think they bought all the rock for 10 bucks. anyway The one thing that makes big box stores suck just gave you the only thing that makes them good. Dumb employes that don't care will sell you what ever but also not knowing what they are selling you give it away. good score but be carefull of the big box store.
