been there and done that........cracked a glass heater, so decided I would never buy another glass heater. Bought more expensive one..........melted that once (actually I was using this one in my water storage and ended up draining it and not realized the heater was still plugged in!)

Ive done it many times before. Not broken anything, but a few fires were very narrowly avoided. One of them being on my bed.... lol bad call to put it there in the first place. But oh well. You live and learn.

Titanium heaters are the way to go, they won't crack...but...they will burn a giant hole in a Brute container. :-[

There's two types of reefers in this hobby: those who've made some kinda "forgot to unplug my heater" mistake, and those who just started.

Maybe I can help you not feel a lone idiot lol. I don't recall doing the heater thing. But a couple of months ago I accidentally plugged my ATO pump into the power strip thinking I had plugged in my fan. Luckily I was on the couch hours later. I heard a strange noise, it was the pump sucking air. The sump was a 1/4" from over flowing, and I guessed it was about 4-5 gallons of fresh water added. Everything survived.

I was rearranging my tank once and decided to pull the heater so it wouldn't get broken. Problem was, I accidentally unplugged a pump instead... Broke the heater and burned a hole in my carpet.
