i'm using mollies to eat algae

    ok i got a friend to help change the water but tonight the power went out several times just for a minute at a time.the white molly went into shock and i don't expect to see it tomorrow.i only have one left.the mollies might not work out after all

    looks like caulerpa verticalta (my spelling is probably 3-4 letters off there), or fuzzy caulerpa in your first picture.

    How did you acclimate the mollies ?? I have a Molly I have been acclimating for a few weeks now ...slowing bringing the salinity up.....its barely 1.012 an the Mollie seems to be lethargic at best. ???

    Yes, have discussed this I think in this and other forums. My concern was will the Mollies go after any of our coral, if not at the beginning, after, when most algae is gone. Keep us posted.

    i only have one left.the dead ones looked nipped at.anyway mine aclimated in about an hour of my using a turkey baster to switch out a lil water at a time.the dalmation mollie thats left looks great but only one is'nt going to be enough and i think if i have more then the other fish might nip

    i have a white/silver molly in our saltwater tank at 1.024 and another one in a brackish tank. The one in the brackish tank keeps the tank very very clean. Before our clownfish started nipping at the molly in our saltwater tank she was keeping it very clean lol. I just acclimated them in a bucket for a couple hours. If anything big moves or I am doing something in the tank the molly gets the crap scared out of it, but after a while it calms down. We only had GSP's before I moved the molly because of the clowns and it never nipped at it. Our peppermint shrimp did more damage to the xenia frag we got than I think the molly could ever do lol.

    WOW never knew you could add them.good to remember if the need ever comes up..btw I feel for ya I had a fractured knee a few months back and couldnt lift nada..had to get lazy brother to give me hand...(he is not into fish)...anywho good luck..
