I have 2 tanks set up right now...
This is the smallest... It's a 10 gallon tank that I neglect to say the least. :-X
I checked the salinity as it's time to start moving things over from that tank... my hydrometer is reading 1.032. I don't see how this is possible with EVERYTHING in the tank showing no signs of stress.

So here's my question, and request:
    1) How can that tank being doing so well with that high of a salinity... could something in the water being throwing off my hydrometer?
And 2) Any in the Plano, Frisco, or The Colony area of a HQ refractometer they wouldn't mind tested my water with?

    additional info:

My main tank is showing 1.022 - 1.023. Again all 3 fish in there are doing great.

I don't remember the last time I did a water change, and all I do is top it off with freshwater. It has about half the sand bed covered in LR rubble, and one large piece of LR, 2-3 snails, one hermit, one arrow crab, and one coral banded shrimp. Also one little HOB 10 gallon rated filter.

You can take it in to your LFS and they can test it for free.

I suppose i should have mentioned this as well...
I did take it to my LFS...
Person stuck their finger in water to drop it onto refractometer... and they just put their hand in one of their tanks. So i don't trust their results.

I've read that many fish will do fine in hypersaline water (off the chart > 1.055) as long as it's a gradual change. I wouldn't panic and attempt to drop it rapidly, that would certainly do more harm.

Can't recall where I read it... one of my books... was about a visit to a fish farm, some black volitans lions in a stock tank covered in algae.

I'd go back and demand they do it right. If it was the owner you might be SOL, but if it was an employee, then they should have been corrected then and there.

He's the manager... and stated "it didnt really matter".
I've really only spoken to maybe 1 or 2 employees there who are truly knowledgeable.

Still, anyone out there close by?
