Yes, there is an insane number of fish and particular tangs in this tank. It's certainly something we don't promote (hence the editorial note prefacing the article ) but it's also hard to deny the success of this tank. The fish look fat and healthy, and the coral growth is simply remarkable. Personally, I think this system is flirting the line between wild success and total crash, but again, the results are impressive thus far.

only 17 tangs. I see all these tanks and I need to think I can put a few more fish in my tank.

 

It was a difficult choice whether to feature this aquarium or not because of the HUGE fish count (17 tangs ... 75 fish in total!). But like I said, the success of Eren's tank is undeniable. The coral growth, PE, coloration, lack of any nuisance algae, etc. runs completely counter to what we would expect from a tank like this.

If it works it works. Alot to do with behavior in fish is feeding. If you have fat fish you have happy fish. In my slightly smaller 2-tang system my lavender tang is pretty benevolent until I don't feed him as much as he wants (or my Helfrichi comes out) But the more I feed them more everybody gets along.

Also reinforce's Alex's First Law of SPS Growth and Color: Fuzzy Sticks need lots of tang poop.

 

beautiful tank, he is doing something right to get that kind of growth in such a short time. i noticed he is worried about oxygen, as he should be with all those fish and running bio pellets on top of it. i sure hope he has an oxygen probe in his tank.
