haha, bulldogs are great. i had a guy who preferred to sleep on the floor with his bulldog instead of in bed with his wife. ok, so he had back problems but that's not the way we tell it

this breed, even out here in the 'burbs of chicago, is few and far between. he was a hit at the pet store when we were buying food and toys. the breed also had something they called a "shibusky" which is pretty much the same thing but marked just like a husky, i'm pretty sure it's not a recognized breed. the appeal of these shibas is that they never grow out of the cute puppy looks

oh, he's cute alright! after a 30 minute walk he came in and promptly whizzed on the carpet. ugh. it's tough to discipline such a cute dog, i wouldn't think twice about swatting a lab or a dane if they needed it, but this guy is so tiny i don't know how to gauge myself.

Here's something that worked really well with my dogs. Make sure to teach him the command "Go Potty." I had both my dogs potty trained in about a week by using the term. Puppies pee a lot! So take him outside like every 20 minutes, when you can, and say "Go Potty" over and over again until he goes. Then lots of praise!! and go back inside. If you're really consistent with it, he'll be potty trained in no time!!

Also, don't scold him if he goes potty in the house. This sounds really weird, but it works, lol. Scold the potty. Point at the potty and say a very stern "no" or "bad potty." And don't clean it up in front of him either, because he will find it interesting and think he gets attention when he goes potty in the house.

He looks very smart - I know he'll get it in no time!

Also, no swatting! That doesn't work.

i guess i should clarify. the swat wouldn't be the punishment, but to stop the act if that makes sense? i guess the first thing i want to do is interrupt the act and then move outside so that he figures out that is where it goes. i've been very consistent about language as well. "go outside" means he comes to the leash. i've been using "go potty" earlier and i got laughed at because i was using my cute puppy voice and talking like an idiot and didn't see this dude like 15 feet away from me.

on an encouraging note, he's figuring out how to walk on a lead VERY quickly. the breeder said that he didn't handle the leash well but so far he's a quick study.

You're lucky he's so great with the leash! My big dog took forever to walk on a leash - she's still horrible, actually! lol She needs a special harness. haha

Sounds like you're on the right track with the potty training! He'll get it in no time. And don't stop saying "go potty," it doesn't make you look silly, just like a good puppy dad! ;)

think you need a more manly command than potty. :) go pee seems better. lol. and just a light tap on the nose with the proper command goes along way. and im sure toby will catch on quick, i imagine its a smart dog.
