this is my 3rd post in 20 minutes due to my lack of knowledge and all the different books and advice ive gotten over the last few months.
i have just purchased my first marine aquarium. its 110g with sump, its a taller tank and is only 5ft long so its definately a tall tank standing at over 5 feet on the stand. right now we are constantly debating on how much live rock to put in it, what kind of fish, invertebrates, and coral, what well need to feed which fish, how to clean it, whether to do water changes, whether the mag drive 12 is big enough, etc.
so this is just me posting what weve thought about putting in it since its a newly starting tank and asking for any suggestions or input. maybe youll notice something that the books havent told us.
currently we have about 60lbs of live sand, 40lbs mix crushed coral. we want to put live rock in the sump and in the tank but are unsure how much and whether to get it cured since were cycling the tank now. we want to get a few fish to speed the process but dont know what to get and have heard that its too soon to add them anyways. my other half wants to have a reef form from the live rock by adding anenomes and feather dusters along with coral but were getting different feed back on the types of fish that might be in danger or cause the reef harm. im really partial to the dragonets and am reading that they are really difficult to feed and maintain. i also like alot of angels and have read that its not a good idea to keep so many. we want butterfly fish and have read that they will also eat the reef. ive also heard damsels were great starter fish because theyre hardy and cheap but then read that they become aggressive if they make it through the cycle. theres also alot of controversy about the sump and whether to use bioballs or pads or just use live rock and maybe spaghetti algae. weve also purchased adult brine shrimp that ive read are good to feed the fish. we also want starfish but heard that they might also do damage to the reef. were trying to avoid alot of green algae build up in the tank (it looked horrible when we bought it because it was covered in long strands of this green algae) so any ideas on algae control are greatly appreciated.
also i have a smaller 20g tank that we were thinking of using to quarantine fish if needed and maybe to even hold them if theyre aggressive but have no idea how to run it.
we know theres alot you can do and some that you should do and we have alot of ideas but again, we just dont want to make any thousand dollar mistakes.
    any input would be great!

Please whatever you do, stay away from cycling with fish :( it really can harm them. Other then that welcome to 3reef.com and keep the questions coming. (see the red for what i would do) ;D
